Programme description

This is an interdisciplinary degree program that integrates the study of microorganisms with core principles of chemistry to address real world challenges. The program focuses on the practical applications of microbiology and chemistry in diverse sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, industry, and environmental management. It provides a strong foundation in applied microbiology, including food microbiology and processing, where beneficial microorganisms such as Lactobacillus are used in the fermentation of products like yogurt, cheese, and pickles alongside comprehensive training in analytical, organic, inorganic, and physical chemistry. While microbiology primarily examines microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites and their roles in health, the environment, and industry, applied microbiology and chemistry go further by combining microbiological knowledge with in depth chemical principles. This integration emphasizes the use of microbes and chemical processes in pharmaceuticals, food production, environmental protection, quality control, and industrial manufacturing. The program is highly relevant to modern scientific and industrial demands, as it equips graduates with multidisciplinary expertise needed to develop safe medicines, improve food safety and preservation, manage environmental pollution, and support sustainable industrial processes. Graduates are therefore well prepared for careers in research, healthcare laboratories, food and pharmaceutical industries, environmental monitoring agencies, and other science-driven sectors. BSc.
