Programme description

Bachelor of Science in Range Management focuses on the sustainable management and conservation of rangelands, ecosystems dominated by native vegetation such as grasses, shrubs, and open woodlands that support grazing by wild and domestic animals. These ecosystems are not intensively farmed through seeding or irrigation and account for approximately 40–50% of the Earth's land surface, making them vital to global food security, biodiversity conservation, and climate regulation. Range Management is the science and practice of managing rangelands to sustainably provide essential resources, including forage, wildlife habitat, water, wood, and recreational opportunities, while conserving soil, vegetation, and overall ecosystem health. The program equips students with a strong foundation in rangeland ecology, grazing management, monitoring, and applied research, enabling them to make informed, science-based decisions. The program addresses key challenges such as land degradation, overgrazing, climate variability, and increasing pressure on natural resources. Graduates are trained for management, research, advisory, and consulting roles and are prepared to enhance the productivity, resilience, and health of rangelands through sustainable practices that support livelihoods, wildlife conservation, and sustainable development at local, national, and global levels.
