Programme description
Aquaculture is the practice of farming in water, similar to agriculture (farming on land), allowing the domestication of aquatic organisms such as fish, crustaceans, and seaweed. This programme aims to train graduates in aquaculture and related fields, equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills needed to sustainably increase aquaculture production, conserve wild aquatic populations, and prevent habitat degradation. The programme is highly relevant in addressing the growing demand for sustainable aquatic food production while supporting the conservation of aquatic ecosystems. Graduates are prepared to apply modern aquaculture techniques, resource efficient practices, and innovative solutions across commercial, small scale, and community based systems. By aligning with the principles of blue economy, the programme enables graduates to harness aquatic resources responsibly to drive sustainable economic growth, create livelihoods, and promote the sustainable use of oceans, lakes, and rivers.
